Let me pre-curse this post by saying that I am not a liscensed nutritionist by any means – and what you are about to read is mostly my opinion backed up by a few artciles I will site.
With that being said, I did a juice cleanse last month. Am I crazy? Some say yes, but for reasons reaching beyond the decision to start juicing. As most of you have probably read, the benefits your body can expect from a juice cleanse are many. Things like more energy, a reduced appetite, weightloss! All those things in just three days, huh? I’M IN! Where do I sign? Oh it’s going to cost how much? My first born child? Ok. Sure. Why not!?
I signed up for my 3 day cleanse at TLoft and was excited to get going. The great thing about the TLoft cleanse is that I got to eat actual food that I got to chew. You honestly will never know how much you enjoy chewing until you swear off it for 3 days. For. REAL. So praise be that the TLoft cleanse lets you have a whole salad AND one of their amazing protein balls everyday day (not to mention the 5 juices).
Here’s the thing: TLoft make an incredible juice. It doesnt really matter how many veggies are in them because each and every one is delecious (believe me I have tried them all), but by the end of the first day I already just wanted to eat something. Like a pizza perhaps. Or a cookie. Um, isn’t this cleasnse supposed to rid me of my awful cravings?? Then day two shows up (I was already hungry because I went to bed dreaming of burgers) but I’m optimistic. I paid for this after all and there is no way I am wasting $55 bucks a day. I am here to be honest with you – I was absolutely feeling zero extra energy – if any engergy AT ALL on any of the days. I had the sheer will to get through day 3 knowning that coffee would soon be back in my life. I can’t tell you if I lost weight because I live my life on the priciple of never weighing myself. BUT my stomach did feel flatter so I will give props for that. Perhaps a longer cleanse would have yielded more positive benefits for me OR maybe I am just not cut out for juice cleanses. Because of that whole chewing thing mentioned earlier.
In theory, and also not in theory because there is scientifitic evidence backing up the healthy power of juicing, a cleanse could be JUST what you need to get your diet on track – or even to re-hydrate your body. Maybe you’ve been needing a PUSH to cut carbs and the knowledge that you are locked into paying for your cleanse is necessary to keep you honest. What is important is that you find a healthy eating lifestyle that works for you and your body. Every person’s needs are different – and just because your bestie is rocking a 14 day juice cleanse DOES NOT mean you have to as well.
Great article on cleanses HERE if you want more details before doing your own!
Be well and be active! Until next time!
